About This Website

Living Together is a project led by The St Philip’s Centre, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF). As part of this project, we have collected and curated 103 oral history interviews exploring experiences of community, identity, and belonging. Some of these interviews contain special category data, and therefore require particular care in how they are shared.

This page explains how the material on this website is licensed, what you are allowed to do with it, and how to identify items that are not openly licensed.

Openly Licensed Materials

Most of the digital outputs produced for Living Together—including text, photographs, graphics, and other project resources—are shared under an open licence, in line with the NLHF’s grant conditions.

This means that, unless otherwise indicated, you are free to:

  • Use

  • Share

  • Adapt

these materials for any purpose, provided you follow the terms of the open licence associated with them.

Where applicable, the specific open licence (for example, a Creative Commons licence) will be displayed clearly alongside the material.

Materials Containing Special Category Data

The oral history collection includes excerpts that contain special category data. The National Lottery Heritage Fund has granted Living Together a formal exception to the usual open-licensing requirement for these materials.

Therefore:

  • All audio and written excerpts containing special category data are marked “All Rights Reserved”.

  • These materials must not be reused, reproduced, edited, or redistributed without the express permission of The St Philip’s Centre.

  • This restriction ensures that interview participants’ privacy, dignity, and legal rights are protected.

Where these clips or extracts appear on the website, they will be clearly labelled “All Rights Reserved” so that visitors can easily distinguish them from openly licensed materials.

Why Are Some Materials Restricted?

The oral histories are a valuable part of the heritage record, but many include personal, sensitive, or otherwise protected information. The licensing arrangements follow UK data protection law and the NLHF’s requirements to ensure:

  • Respect for interviewees’ consent and lived experience

  • Legal compliance regarding special category data

  • Public access to heritage where this can be done responsibly

This approach allows us to make the project’s findings publicly available while safeguarding those who shared their stories.
